WebbCardiac tamponade is compression of the heart that impairs ventricular filling and leads to a low cardiac output. The incidence of cardiac tamponade post-cardiac surgery has been reported to be as high as 3 to 6 %. The presentation of tamponade can be variable and requires a high index of suspicion.
