Tell your senders to turn that option off and then iMessages will automatically deliver when you reconnect to WIFI. I travel extensively overseas so I am sure that this works. Sender and receiver don't need to be using the same network type. It works as long as you have a data connection. Strictly speaking, it doesn't need 3G (it will work on EDGE too).
